Sr. Research Coordinator/Genetic Counselor
I obtained an MSc in Molecular Genetics and an MSc in Genetic Counselling from the University of Toronto in Canada. My graduate work in molecular genetics focused on understanding DNA damage repair in primitive blood cells. For my graduate work in genetic counseling, I performed a qualitative study with parents who have children with autism, assessing their attitudes towards their children’s participation in autism genetic research. I am certified through the American Board of Genetic Counseling and worked for many years as a clinical genetic counselor specializing in hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes.
In my current role as senior research coordinator in Dr. Chakravarti’s laboratory, I talk with individuals, families and health care providers to help them understand our study of the genetics of Hirschsprung disease. I enroll interested participants and facilitate the collection of clinical and genetic data for the study. I also coordinate the regulatory aspects of the other studies that are ongoing in the laboratory.
